Created by Aprifel in 2003, EGEA conference is a unique plateform where scientific communities, civil society and decision makers could meet. The 9th edition of EGEA will be held in September 2023, from the 20th to 22nd. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the conference, an ambitious theme has been chosen “Diet, fruit and vegetables and One health: what contributions?” This event will aim at identifying scientifically based solutions to build more sustainable food systems. It will be co-chaired by Prof. Elio Riboli (Imperial College London) and Dr. Joël Doré (Inrae).

Created in 2003 by Aprifel, EGEA is a unique international conference. Bringing together all stakeholders and drawing on multidisciplinary knowledge, these conferences aim to provide concrete, science-based recommendations for changing practices and policies (see below).

The 9th edition of EGEA will be held from 20 to 22 September 2023 and will mark the 20th anniversary of this event.

Reflect on the contribution of diets and fruit and vegetables to One health

In order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of EGEA conference, an emerging and prospective theme, echoing Aprifel’s missions, has been retained: “Diet, fruit and vegetables and One health: what contributions?”

The “One health” approach revolutionizes the traditional disciplinary method and asks all health actors – working on human, animal or environmental health- to adopt a transverse and holistic view of their practices and knowledge. Thus, with the EGEA 2023 conference, Aprifel invites the scientific communities, as well as all stakeholders interested in food and health issues, to jointly examine and address the contribution of diets and more specifically of fruit and vegetables to individual health, to the sustainability of food systems and to explore the role of the consumer in the vegetation of his diet.

Bringing together more than 20 speakers and 250 international participants

The EGEA conference 2023 will be co-chaired by Prof. Elio Riboli (Imperial College London) and Dr. Joel Doré (Inrae). It will feature more than 20 international speakers in four sessions:

  • Fruit and vegetables: what are the benefits for individual health and for food and nutritional security?
  • Fruit and vegetables at the heart of sustainability: what environmental and social impacts?
  • Vegetalizing the diet: what are the determinants of consumer behavior and choice?
  • What recommendations/solutions to bring?

Oral presentations and scientific posters will contribute to shed light on these questions and to provide reflection and identification of solutions to help build a sustainable food system with fruit and vegetables. The EGEA 2023 conference aims at being a moment of sharing and networking. It expects to bring together nearly 250 international participants.

Registration and call for poster and oral presentations will soon be open

EGEA: from science to action, for the benefit of everyone’s health

EGEA is a platform for scientific communities to share and discuss their analyses and work on healthy and sustainable diets rich in fruit and vegetables. These conferences are intended to provide concrete, science-based recommendations for changing practices and policies. For example, the consensus reached at the EGEA conferences has played an active role in guiding the European policy on the establishment of the European School Scheme, a large European program to promote the consumption of fruit and vegetables in schools. The WHO has also recognized EGEA as an effective and concrete strategy to promote fruit and vegetable consumption (WHO Europe, October 2008).
